If you are a pop-up camper owner, you may have encountered issues with the canvas surrounding the camper. From time to time, this canvas can have some problems that have to be taken care of so that you and your family are properly sheltered from the elements. Replacing this canvas is very expensive, so the following tips can help you use your pop-up camper while you are saving for a new one.

Stitch Together Canvas Around Broken Zippers

As a pop-up owner, you know that the canvas zips open and closed to allow fresh air into the camper. You may experience zippers that come off the track from time to time, or they can break altogether. Unless you are an experienced tailor who has experience with zippers, consider just stitching the canvas in the place where the zipper will not close. If the broken area is just a small space, you can simply whip stitch the canvas closed and avoid using that area until you can have the zipper repaired professionally. When you are stitching the area, be sure to sew into the thickest part of the seam so that the stitches will hold.

Use A Pop-Up Canopy To Replace Broken Awning

If your pop-up camper has an awning on the front and it becomes damaged, it can be very expensive to replace. If you do not want to go to the expense of repairing the awning, there are a couple things you can do. The easiest and least expensive way is to purchase a pop-up canopy at any big box department store. Set it up and place it against the front of the camper to help shield the sunlight. Use this until you can have your regular awning replaced, or simply use it as a permanent solution.

Alternatives For Repairing A Damaged Grey Water Tank

Over time, the gray water tank can become punctured or broken. The grey water tank is very important because it holds the used water from the kitchen sink. If you want to use your camper before getting a new tank, you can purchase a portable tank from the camping section of a sporting goods store. You will also need to set up an outdoor dish and hand washing station rather than using your kitchen sink. Most pop-up owners prefer to do their dishes in an outdoor kitchen setup anyway due to the lack of space inside. Get two washing bins to wash and rinse the dishes, then pour your used water into your portable tank. Once the tank is full, walk it down to the dump station and empty it.

Owning a pop-up camper is a very economical way to go camping without sleeping in a tent, but the maintenance and repairs can become pricey. These tips can help you get a little more life out of your pop-up before it is time to replace it.
